The government of Uganda in conjuction with the International Labour organisation(ILO), has the honour of inviting you to the 13th Regional Seminar for Labour-based Practitioners. The seminar will take place from 30th November to 4th December, 2009 (both dates inclusive) at the Munyonyo Commonwealth Resort in Kampala, Uganda.
The Regional Seminars for labour-based Practitioners are organised as a means of promoting widespread and cost effective use of employment-intensive approaches to infrastructure development that result in sustainable assests and optimise creation of employment opportunities. The seminars bring together practitioners in labour-based works to exchange ideas and experiences, to be appraised of new policies and developments and identify key issues of concern that need to be addressed.
Further, the seminars provide opportunities for furthening and deepening knowledge and practice through presentation of papers and crisp discussion among stakeholders involved in infrastructure development.
The theme for the 13th Regional seminar is "Employment intensive Approach in the Construction Sector: A catalyst for achieving Prosperity for all".
Uganda is implementing a "Prosperity for All" programme which aims at tackling poverty at a household level. Under the programme, households are being facilitated to meet the basic needs and to afford basic goods and services for material and social comfort. One of the key objectives of the programme is to create employment for the poor to enable them earn a targeted minimum income of Ushs 20 million per household per year.
The seminar therefor will seek to encourage sharing of knowledge and experience on the benefit and impact of infrastructure works on improving livelihoods of the target groups through the creation of employment opportunities and skills development.
